What is resigning and why is it useful? Well, if you ever downloaded or attempt to use a game save from someone else, chances are that either the game won't allow it at all or disallow you to save over it.
Resigning the game save will allow you to transform it into your own, allowing you to use it successfully and save over it as many times as you want.
In this tutorial, we're going to be resigning a Dynasty Warriors 8 game save. You can use any game save you like, of course. Also, this is specifically for non-copy protected game saves only.
This process is very easy and should take you no longer than 5 minutes.
Requirements:
- Game save you wish to resign
- Game save of your own from your own PS3 and user account
- Playstation 3 console (can be original firmware or custom - NO modding necessary)
- USB stick/drive - to transfer game saves from PS3 to PC and vice versa
- PC with Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8
- Bruteforce Save Data
STEP 1: Copy your own game save to USB stick
The first thing we need to accomplish is to obtain a game save that is of your own (i.e. one that is currently tied to your PS3 and user account).
You can use any game save for this. In this tutorial, I will be using my own Dynasty Warriors 8 game save from my PS3 (to make things less complex).
Copy the game save of your choice from your PS3 to your USB stick. Plug the USB stick into your PC. You can simply leave the game save in the USB stick as copying it to the PC isn't necessary.
STEP 2: Download/obtain the game save you wish to resign
Now, we will need the game save you wish to resign.
For this tutorial, I'm going to be using the Dynasty Warriors 8 100% game save I posted on this blog.
Place the game save folder somewhere on your PC that you can remember.
STEP 3: Download and configure Bruteforce Save Data
Bruteforce Save Data is a powerful game save data swiss army knife for PS3. It allows one to decyrpt and encrypt game save files, add cheats, transfer region, transfer saves to another owner and more.
Download Bruteforce Save Data here.
Once it's finished downloading, extract the RAR file and run the installer. Do not run the program yet.
Create a new folder on your desktop or anywhere else you like and name it "SAVEDATA". This folder will be the folder where you store all your game saves for usage with Bruteforce Save Data. Make sure that wherever directory you store it in is NOT write protected!
Drag/copy the game save folder you wish to resign (ex. NPUB31234-SAVEDATA) to this "SAVEDATA" folder.
Now it's time to run Bruteforce Save Data.
Windows Vista, 7 and 8: Run Bruteforce Save Data as an administrator by right clicking the program icon and then selecting "Run as administrator". This is very crucial! If you don't wish to do this every time you re-open the program, go to the BruteforceSaveData.exe in Windows Explorer, right click and select "Properties", then go to "Compatibility" tab and check "Run this program as administrator". Alternately, you can simply disable Windows User Account Control (UAC).
Windows XP: You can just simply double click the program icon to launch. Although, if you run into strange issues, you may want to try running as an Administrator.
If you receive an error message regarding msvbvm50.dll missing, you need to install Visual Basic Runtime 5.
You may be also requested to download Microsoft Visual Basic C++ 2010 (x86) if you don't have it installed in your system. Downloading and installing this is a must!
If all is well, you should be greeted with a nice big window.
Ignore any of the program's requests to input a console ID and User ID. You don't need to setup a PARAM.SFO template either for now. Just leave them all at default.
The first thing we need to do is click on the "..." button and select the "SAVEDATA" folder of where our game save is (the one we created earlier). So go ahead and do that. Once selected, your game save should show up.
SAVEDATA folder selected as the path. |
Take note of the "Key" section, there should be numbers in this field. If it's empty, you'll need to select the game save and hit F6 to Bruteforce the key. Once it's Bruteforced, press the "Refresh" button to refresh everything. The "Key" section should have now some numbers.
STEP 4: Setup PARAM.SFO template
We need to setup a PARAM.SFO template so that we can use it to resign the game save to our own PS3 and user account. This is where your own game save you transferred over earlier from the PS3 comes in handy.
To do this, in the Bruteforce Save Data program window, click on the button labeled "Set PARAM.SFO as Template". This should pop up a menu.
In the pop up menu, go to "Configure Profiles" and select "SET PARAM.SFO for Profile 1...".
How to setup PARAM.SFO template. |
Now, it will ask you for a PARAM.SFO file. What you want to select is the PARAM.SFO file of your own game save (the one we transferred over earlier from the PS3, which should be in your USB stick if you haven't copied it over to your PC).
Here I selected the PARAM.SFO file from the Dynasty Warriors 8 game save I copied to my USB stick:
After you click "OK", it will tell you that the current profile will be used for patches. Meaning, every time you resign a game save, it will be resigned to this profile (PS3 and user account).
Make sure your profile ID (the 16 digit number after your profile name) is not BLANK. If it's BLANK, you will need to use another game save PARAM.SFO file until you get a 16 digit number.
If you cannot get a 16 digit number, try tying a PSN/SEN account to your PS3 user account, log into it and then create a game save or save over a previous game save. You should get a 16 digit number for that save afterwards.
STEP 5: Rebuild game save with new profile
With the game save selected, click on the button labeled "Rebuild" and then select "Rebuild Full" in the pop up menu. It will ask you a confirmation dialog; select "Yes" to confirm.
Resign successful! |
That's all there is to resigning a game save! No decrypting and encrypting necessary!
STEP 6: Transfer game save to PS3
You are pretty much finished at this point. All that's left to be done is to transfer the game save back to your PS3 and test it out (using your USB stick).
Please don't be an idiot and overwrite your current game save without making a backup of it first! I will not be held responsible for any loss or damages of your game saves if you fail to follow this caution!
If all is well, the game should throw you no warnings about using another person's game save and you should be able to save over it now.
Enjoy!

OK, so my issue here is with backing up my saves onto my USB pen drive. For whatever reason, I can back the saves up and my ps3 can see them when I plug it in there, but on my computer, the files are nowhere to be found. i've tried showing hidden folders, and reformatting it to fat32 twice now, and it just doesn't do anything.
ReplyDeleteI have heard of issues with the PS3 not being able to recognize the USB drive while Windows does, not the other way around. Have you tried using another USB drive to see if the problem is with the drive?
DeleteI unfortunately don't have another drive. The saves seem to work perfectly fine. I tested by deleting something unimportant and replacing it with the copy I put on the drive. They're just not showing up when I look into it. Thanks for the reply! It's not just DW8 that does this, oddly enough. So, yeah... I might needto buy a new drive? I hope not.
DeleteDoes the drive in question appear in Windows' Disk Management as 1 single partition? Perhaps the PS3 is saving onto a hidden partition Windows can't see. I'd suggest you do a low level format if you haven't already, something like HDDGURU can do that for you.
DeleteIf all else fails, try getting another drive. They are not expensive, about $5 for 4GB (which is more than enough to store PS3 game saves).
So I somehow corrupted my save games for FFX & FFX-2 HD using Bruteforce. Is there any way to fix it? I added cheats to the game, but I think I missed a step and now when I load the game on my console it loads and then says "Data corrupt".
DeleteThe PS3 only reads Fat32, you must format your flash drive to Fat32 in order for it to be read. For the FFX & FFX-2 HD, did you Checksum it? If you E-mail me I can modify your game save in any order you wish, I have free time on my hands so I would be most glad to help.
DeleteHi, I'm kindly wondering if you could help me with the same situation, I googled some sites in "desperation" after a solution to the "Data is Corrupted" problem when loading resigned saves with Bruteforce on PS3! I'm super new this whole phenomenon, I thought I could pull it off, but clearly something went wrong (even though I followed every tutorial/guide I came across, precisely)... So I was just wondering If you would help me resign my save so it will work?^^ You seem confident in modifying saves, so I thought I might as well ask!
DeleteThank you very much!!
for the drive to show up on ps3 it has to be a fat32
ReplyDeleteor a plain fat formatted drive
ReplyDeleteWhy, thanks much. I was looking for an easy to follow text walkthrough, and that just what I found here. Downloaded some modded Skyrim files, you see, and I didn't like the idea of not being able to save the games if mods I like were applied to some of these files. Amazing what you can do with computers these days.
ReplyDeletethanks for ur tut , i have problem when i chose save data then the name of game it will be in red and UNREADABEL
ReplyDeleteany help thanks
Could be three things:
Delete1.) You don't have Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 (x86) installed: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555
2.) You are placing your SAVEDATA folder on a write protected directory.
3.) You are not running the program as an administrator.
Under the profile mine is blank. I did everything that you said in the forum.
Deletehi , i follow ur tut and i have problem is my consel id still Blank i try with all save data and still Blank '' not numbers'' and my i acount is normal i dident enter online befor becouze am using jailbreack ps3 game CF so any help
ReplyDeletethanks alot for ur tut, other question ,how check of write protected directory , how i don know that?

ReplyDeletecan someone help me? i am having several issues here Michael
ReplyDeleteWhat are the issues?
DeleteHi, if the [BLANK] show up, what do i do?
ReplyDeleteIs it really necessary to create a Folder named SAVEDATA or is just make us easier to do it? If the ID is [BLANK], then what do we do? u just said choose different POMO until it work, whats that even mean?
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to create the SAVEDATA folder. Just put your saves wherever you like that isn't write protected.
DeleteIf your ID is [BLANK], you need to try using different game saves in step 1 and 4 (selecting different PARAM.SFO in the game save folders) until you get one that isn't blank.
Hi, it all seemed to work well, but when I tried to copy it over to my PS3 it says it is corrupted. Anything I can do to fix that? Thanks
ReplyDeleteSomething wrong is happening during the rebuild process (including decrypt and re-encrypting). Make sure you have ran the software as an administrator (right click and select "Run as administrator..."). After, make sure the key section of your game save is not empty and has unique numbers. If it's empty, select it and hit F6. After that, you must click the refresh button. Configure your profile. Then try to rebuild again.
DeleteI have an issue. Whenever I choose the folder none of my saves show up, even if I hit refresh, it just shows any previous saves I was working with.
ReplyDeletedemons souls work but issues with ps3 controller after resign another save ... why..
ReplyDeleteHi, I followed all the steps, yet it still doesnt work and the PS3 still sees it as being another users game
ReplyDeleteIf you can give me one of your saves the save you want to resign, I can try to resign it for you. if you need help and want to do it yourself, you're going to have to be a lot more specific with the problems you're having.
DeleteI am also having that same problem.
DeleteI followed all the steps and am running as admin but when I rebuild your save the profile comes up BLANK even tho I have already set up my profile as the template, only thing that isn't ok after the rebuild is something about there being no disc hash key and its using a fallback one? is that the problem?
ReplyDeleteYou need to have a non-BLANK profile ID. Did you try using other saves to set up the profile? The no disc hash key error is normal, you're always going to get that.
DeleteIf you can send me one of your saves and the save you want to resign through e-mail, I can try to resign it for you.
Perfect, flawless and clear instructions.. saved me countless hours. Thank you
ReplyDeleteThanks for this tutorial. I have a quick question. Once you have setup a profile that has a key next to it, can this be universally used for any game? In your tutorial in the first few steps you said that you would be using DW8 for both saves, the pro one and the noob one. Say you wanted to resign a GTA5 save. Can you use the profile you used before or do you have to use a GTA5 noob file to make another profile? thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnd by noob file, I mean native file from the ps3
DeleteYes, once you set up a profile once, you can use it over again on any other saves you want to resign.
DeleteThank you very much!
DeleteSo I try to use dump lvl2 to get my console ID and then drag it to get console ID.
ReplyDeleteBut I still have these [BLANK] in my profile instead of the unique 16 digits ID. Where did I go wrong?
Hi there. The link to the save editor is broken. Can you post this app in a zip somewhere?
ReplyDeleteUse this link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/66210285/BruteforceSaveData.rar
DeleteIt's an older version but should work fine. The author of the software has taken it down on his website for some reason. Maybe he's in process of giving it an update.
i try to copy my save games to my usb but i cant the copy says protected
ReplyDeleteLike it said, you cannot do this on copy protected save.
DeleteI followed all of the steps correctly and the resign all went well acording to the program, the file goes back on to the ps3 fine but when i load borderlands 2 back up it just does not load the file.
ReplyDeleteany suggestions?
Hello! I'm trying to resign a couple of save files for a game and it pops up with a window asking for an .elf file when I try to brute force the blank key.
ReplyDeleteDone all the steps (EASY!) but...i'm a noob and how do I get my modded file thats on bruteforce (the one I just done all the work to) onto my desktop etc I can't see a button for it ):
ReplyDeleteI tried following these steps to convert my Musou Orochi 2 save to Warriors Orochi 3 (US digital version), and everything seemed to work OK. But when I loaded the game, it said "The save file cannot be used. If you begin the game with this file, you will be unable to autosave" and asked me if I wanted to erase the file and make a new one. Do you have any idea what the problem is?
ReplyDeleteNot all games will be compatible when switching between different regions. If you did everything correctly and it still gives you that error, then that likely means the game's save data code between the two regions differ too much to work with each other. Musou Orochi 2/Warriors Orochi 3 I believe has that problem, unfortunately. Maybe you can use someone else's Warriors Orochi 3 US game save and resign to your profile.
DeleteBTW, this should be posted under the region transfer post. This is exclusively resigning saves only.
in my new user (on formated hdd) i cant get a 16digit profile id for any reason... and i can't log in on psn...
ReplyDeletesuggestions???
You have to create a PSN account and be logged into it to get your profile ID. You should figure out why you can't log into PSN, which is something I can't really help you with.
DeleteI got the 16 digit profile id working but now when I rebuild it it still wont change to my profile. Dunno what to do?
ReplyDeleteAre you running the software as administrator? Right click Bruteforce Save Data and select "Run as Administrator". Usually this will solve the problem.
Deleteevery time i do it and load up my game its says its corrupted and i have no idea why its doing if someone can do it for me or help me in some way im trying to use a modded profile for borderlands 2 to get a modded badass rank but it wont work
ReplyDeleteHi, I tried following your instructions with regards to resigning saves and still every time loading the file it said it is corrupted.. Is it ok for me to send to your email a save file from my ps3 and a save file that I like to be resigned? I paly Final Fantasy XIII. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWe got this resolved through e-mail. :)
DeleteWell anyway you can post the solution? I'm trying to do the same thing and it's going to drive me crazy until I can get it T_T. Thanks for your time.
Deletei dont know why its not showing up on my ps3
ReplyDeleteMake a folder of ur USB as follows;
DeleteX:PS3/SAVEDATA/(game save folder e.g. BLESMMM1999)/
Only then it will read :D
*Make a folder IN ur USB
Deletehi, do i have to sign up for psn account through the console to get the 16 numbers? cause my ps3 is jailbroken and i never went online, won't I be kicked out if i go online?
ReplyDeleteNo need for a PSN account... Even if the 16 numbers r blank still it works (as mine worked)... Try it :D
DeleteIt doesnt work with Tales of Graces F. Even after the rebuild, (with a blank instead of the 16 digit ID) when I start up the game, I still get the, "System Data is from a different user" error.
Deletei followed your steps and every time i try to rebuild it does it but it will not change the assigned profile on the file for some reason it will not change it to mine after i do full rebuild then makes the file PARAM data missing in the folder and prevent further editing anyway i can fix this?
ReplyDeleteThat usually happens if you don't run the software as an administrator. Right click on Bruteforce Save Data and select "Run as Administrator...".
DeleteOther reasons could be the game is missing its key or the game save is double layer encrypted. If it's the latter then there isn't anything you can do, software wise.
i do the instruction but i still get [BLANK] :'( can anyone help me ?
ReplyDeleteSome saves work even if its [BLANK].. Mine worked.. Try it :D
DeleteThank you very much!
ReplyDeletethis tutorial was so useful for me!!
hi, I followed all the steps and the save resigned properly, but no trophies popped when I loaded the resigned save. the game was sound shapes. any help?
ReplyDeleteI am having this same issue, if anyone knows what I am doing wrong please let me know. Thanks!!
DeleteThank u so much.. Worked for me even with the Profile as blank :D
ReplyDeleteHello, I'm having the same problem as Omgfloofy asking for an .elf file when I try to bruteforce the blank key. I've done exactly as instructed except the part about downloading the pre-configured game.conf file.
ReplyDeleteWhat game is it? If the game isn't in the database yet then you won't be able to bruteforce it.
Deletewhoa... thank you very much Wonderpierrot
ReplyDeleteI followed your Bruteforce save data tutorial !
and now I can move my savegame from OFW PS3 into CFW PS3
and they are working fine...
although it's BLANK in my PARAM.SFO profile but it's all working fine!
thank you
oh.. and btw do you still have Dynasty Warriors 8 save data which have all character unlocked ?
ReplyDeletethanks
It should still be on the blog, just do a search for it.
DeleteI don't know why people are still getting BLANK when I already explained how to circumvent it. I realize people may avoid the method I posted due to having CFW, most likely.
Deleteyes .. I found it in your blog.. I used your 100% DW8 US ver
ReplyDeleteit worked fine :)... thank you very much wonderpierrot :)
my disc was DW8 US version too... but of course, before use your save data, I resign it first with Bruteforce, makes it mine... and works fine.. thanks... so far, everytime I used this Bruteforce, it always working fine, solid 100% !
BTW, just asking :
did u have a much completed " games.conf " files that covered games released on April-May 2014 ?
thanks
Thank you very much wonderpierrot! you saved my life
ReplyDeleteHi...just sent you an email. I am having issues getting this to work and was hoping if I send you a file you could resign it for me?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
hey good guide and all but I dont have a rebuild button and my keys are blank everything else is fine
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU THANK THANK YOU. Excellent guide. Everything works exactly as described. I am VERY happy with this guide as well as your other guide to change the Regions. Both work like a charm.
ReplyDeletePOSSIBLE ASSISTANCE FOR ANYONE ENCOUNTERING AN 80029207 DATA IS CORRUPTED ERROR FOLLOWING THIS METHOD
ReplyDeleteExecutive Summary:
Delete games.conf
Load savegames as described
Use F6 method as described to brute force the key from the save file
Proceed as the post describes
After spending a few days, first looking for information on how to resign ps3 save files and finally finding this overwhelmingly helpful blog post, and then having to muddle my way through further after following the instruction in this blog post did not work for me, rather giving me an 80029207 corrupted data error after I copied the savegame back to my ps3 and attempted to load them, let me share what I have learned with anyone else who runs into the same problem.
I encountered this specific error when trying to re-sign a FFXIII save file. What I eventually found was that the games.conf file provided by Wonderpierrot above has multiple different keys listed for Final Fantasy XIII, and it was trying to use the incorrect key to decrypt / reencrypt my save file after resigning the file. It seems to default to the first key on the list, even when there are multiple available, and that may not be the correct one. To get around that, I eventually just deleted the games.conf file entirely, loaded up bruteforce with the save files, and used the F6 method mentioned to have it crack the key directly from the save file rather than relying on a predetermined key from games.conf. After doing that, I just followed the instructions provided and it worked smoothly.
Hopefully this lengthy digression is helpful to anyone having a similar problem.
when i try to bruteforce the save for keys it says open elf file. plzzz help
ReplyDeleteTry updating to the latest version of Bruteforce Save Data 4.6 at: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/66210285/bruteforcesavedata46.rar
DeleteUpdate the cheats repository when you launch the program. Then try to resign again.
If you are still having that error, it may mean the game is not supported yet or has double layer encryption.
Everything goes fine until I push the Rebuild (Full) part. It doesnt make it over to my PSN name. Its a WipEout HD save, Im not sure if it cant be switched or not.
ReplyDeleteHello, I have attempted numerous times to resign the game save but for some odd reason after rebuilding (full) part, the params doesn't change to my other profile >_<
ReplyDeleteYou may need to run the program as administrator. Right click and select "Run as administrator".
DeleteHaving a hard time resigning a Tales of Xillia save. Was playing on my friend's PS3 with my brother and made it around 30 hours in. My brother got his own PS3 and we gave my friend back his, thinking we could just copy the save over to the new PS3 and be fine. Now we can't play.
ReplyDeleteTried the steps listed above, and everything seemed to work fine. All the things in the Bruteforce Editor say OK after the rebuild, but when it gets loaded into the PS3 again, we get a data corrupted error. Tales of Xillia seems to only have one key, so it doesn't look like that could be the problem (though we did try some of the suggestions for removing the .conf files just in case). Made sure everything was up to date, and was running the program as an admin. Any help or suggestions would be really helpful!
Thanks soo much for this!
ReplyDeleteThanks..Followed instructions and worked perfect...
ReplyDeleteAfter resigning my skyrim game save my ps3 said I wouldn't be able to unlock trophies or save with that character can I fix that
ReplyDeleteI did the step by step tut but for some reason after I copy the save and play the game it's giving me an error that it's still somebody's game save.
ReplyDeleteI get the same error as the anon above me,
ReplyDeleteIs there any way to fix this issue?
thank you so much man
ReplyDeleteit worked fine
Not sure if anyone is still checking this, I have no problems resigning the save or copying it to my ps3, the ps3 shows the save as lvl61 sanctuary but just loads a lvl1...any idea why?
ReplyDeleteTry hitting triangle to load the character. It worked for me .
DeleteI am trying this for the first time and my problem is when I hit F6 to Bruteforce the key for the save that I'm trying to use the folder opens and there is no ELF file in the folder at all. I have no idea what is wrong and I've spent a few hours looking for the problem and all I find is nothing. Is there any way i can get some help on this?
ReplyDeleteI have a Tales of Xillia Save that I want to resign but unfortunately have no access to a computer or flash drive. Would someone resign it for me? I really don't want to abandon all of my hard work. I would really appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteI have a save that doesn't have param.sfo. Only have param.pfd and usr-data. I was trying to generate the param.sfo with bruteforce but always obtain a corrupted save when I try to copy the save to my ps3. Can anyone explain me how to resign a save that doesn't have the archive param.sfo?
ReplyDeleteWhenever I go to redesign my FFXIII save file, it just keeps saying the region is ?? or unknown. It's a US save so I don't why it's doing this. I even tried changing the region to Japan and back to US but it still says the region is unknown. I really do not want to start over because my save is 100% and that treasure hunter trophy is a pain in the a** to get.
ReplyDeletei found a resident evil hd remaster file, but couldn't use it because it was another user's save file. followed all the steps on this page, and it all worked. when i booted the game, it crashed when loading the save file, saying '' not enough memory on system, game will close. at least 0kb more needed''
ReplyDeleteif anyone can help me with this, i'd appreciate it
Cool, thx. For *dll fix. Cz i miss it. Thx full :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post man thanks for sharing this useful information but I was i serach for Jailbreak download finally i found one original and working PS3 Jailbreak & PS4 Jailbreak Games PKG for free follow the link to read more.
ReplyDeleteDownloading games you don't own? Ads? What PS4 do you have? Don't have any of this stuff on my US PS4Pro ps3 jailbreak 4.83 deutsch download
ReplyDeleteIt's a thing that the PS4 does that you have to opt out of where it will display games on the home screen that Sony thinks you might like to buy. Its a global thing but clearly you have opted out of it and forgotten about it. ps4 jailbreak 6.20 cfw
